A selection of work, spotted in recent graduate degree shows, will be exhibited publicly at 72 Rivington Street. First up is recent University of Brighton Graduate Kyle Bean, and his lovely project called Mobile Evolution.
Kyle describes his project here;
"I am designer, animator and most recently a graduate from the University of Brighton. I have always enjoyed making things from a very young age. Like a lot of children I used to always take things apart to try and work out how things worked. I believe this curiosity has had a significant influence on my work as a designer. Although I like to approach each project individually and always strive to put ideas before aesthetic, I can't help but explore similar themes time and time again. During my time at university studying illustration, I have enjoyed making stop frame animations, designing books and crafting models. Last year as a way of illustrating our modern way of sourcing information, I designed a book/laptop hybrid, a model where I transformed a book into the form of a laptop. It was I real turning point for me as I realised I could illustrate an idea three-dimensionally in a fashion that almost seemed like a real working product. I had a lot of internet interest from people around the world who wanted to buy it, thinking it was a real functioning laptop. It seemed quite surreal to me! Most recently I have returned to the theme of technology in my work, by making a Russian Doll style model of mobile phones. I simply wanted to demonstrate how mobile technology has evolved and miniaturised so quickly since the 1980's. As a child of the late 80's I only have vague recollections of mobile phones back then, so I was fascinated to discover how massive they really were".
